Proposed Oncor Transmission Line Draws Attention Across Jones County

April 13, 2026

A major transmission line project proposed by Oncor Electric Delivery Company is beginning to draw attention across Jones County as public meetings are scheduled this week to gather community input.
The project would rebuild a 149-mile, double-circuit 345-kilovolt transmission line stretching from Midland County to Shackelford County, crossing multiple West Texas counties—including Jones County.
If approved, the line would be constructed alongside an existing route and supported by steel monopole structures, with a projected completion date of 2028.
While the project spans a wide region, its potential impact on Jones County landowners and communities is expected to be a key concern.
Transmission projects of this scale can affect:
Private property and easements
Agricultural operations and grazing land
Future development opportunities
Visual landscape across rural areas
Although Oncor has identified a preliminary route, more detailed maps will be presented during upcoming public meetings, giving residents a clearer look at how the line could affect specific properties and communities.
Jones County residents will have a nearby opportunity to learn more and voice concerns at a come-and-go meeting in

Abilene:

Additional meetings will be held in Midland and Sweetwater earlier in the week.
Representatives from Oncor and its consulting firm will be available to answer questions and accept public comment as part of the regulatory process required by the Public Utility Commission of Texas.
For Jones County residents—particularly landowners—these meetings represent an important opportunity to engage early in the process.
Once a route is finalized and approved, options for changes may become more limited, making early participation critical for those who may be impacted.
Residents with questions can also contact Oncor directly or review project details online.
